A former Special Adviser on Political Matters in the Office of the Vice President, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed has written an open letter to President Bola Tinubu, urging him not to seek re-election in 2027. In the letter, Baba-Ahmed thanks Tinubu for appointing him despite their political differences but criticizes the President’s leadership style, lack of clear vision, poor cabinet choices, and governance failures.

He expresses regret over joining an administration that, in his view, has prioritized political survival over national progress. Highlighting the nation’s worsening economic conditions, insecurity, and regional disaffection, Baba-Ahmed argues that Tinubu’s continued leadership could deepen Nigeria’s challenges. He appeals to Tinubu to focus on solidifying a positive legacy rather than seeking another term, suggesting that stepping aside would allow a younger generation to lead Nigeria toward unity, meritocracy, and genuine progress.
