The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, have engaged in a verbal dispute over allegations of betrayal and attempts to undermine one another.

Oluwo claimed that despite playing a crucial role in Ooni’s ascension in 2015 by assisting in resolving a court case, Ooni has consistently worked against him. He accused Ooni of orchestrating his suspension from the Osun State Council of Obas and attempting to destabilize his rule by influencing local kings. Oluwo also alleged that Ooni publicly humiliated him before Governor Ademola Adeleke and sought to have him removed.
In response, Ooni’s spokesperson dismissed these claims as baseless, stating that Ooni was divinely ordained to become king and did not need anyone’s help. He attributed Oluwo’s suspension to his public misconduct, specifically a physical altercation with another monarch.
He also refuted claims of public embarrassment, clarifying that Ooni merely advised Oluwo to respect traditional religious practices. The spokesperson further revealed that Ooni had supported Oluwo’s enthronement, providing financial assistance and other resources.
The dispute highlights ongoing tensions within the Osun State traditional leadership.
