A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Rofiat Lawal, has been kidnapped while traveling from Benin, Edo State, to her place of primary assignment in Ibadan, Oyo State. The incident occurred along the Benin-Ore Expressway, and her abductors are demanding a ₦20 million ransom.
A friend of Lawal shared the news on social media, highlighting her struggles to support herself through university and pleading for public assistance. Lawal’s parents, who are financially constrained, reported the incident to the Oyo State NYSC Secretariat.
Oyo State NYSC Coordinator, Odoba Oche, confirmed the abduction and stated that security agencies have been alerted. He also noted that Lawal traveled without notifying NYSC, contrary to official guidelines. The situation is currently under investigation.
