The Joint Consultative and Negotiating Council (JCNC), a union in the aviation sector, has called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the delayed payment of entitlements to former Nigeria Airways workers.

JCNC Chairman, Hector Nnadi, expressed disappointment that some ex-workers had not received their full benefits 30 years after the airline’s liquidation in 2004 under former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
In 2018, the Federal Government approved ₦22.68 billion—half of the total ₦45.3 billion owed—for disbursement under former President Muhammadu Buhari. However, the final tranche remains unpaid. Despite assurances in 2023 from Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, that the payments would be settled, the issue persists.
Speaking at the 11th Aviation Workers’ Week and Award Night in Abuja, Nnadi urged Tinubu to take decisive action, praising the efforts of aviation workers and calling for justice for Nigeria Airways retirees.
Meanwhile, Keyamo, represented by Permanent Secretary Dr. Ibrahim Kana, reaffirmed his support for unionism and workers’ welfare. Aviation professionals at the event commended JCNC’s role in advocating for industry progress.
