China executed two men on Monday for committing mass killings in separate incidents in 2024. Fan Weiqiu, 62, was executed for deliberately driving an SUV into a crowd in Zhuhai, killing 35 people and injuring 45.

The court found he acted out of anger over personal issues, calling his actions “particularly cruel” and harmful to society.
In a separate case, Xu Jiajin, a 21-year-old former student, was executed in Jiangsu province for a mass stabbing at a vocational school that left eight dead and 17 injured. Both men were sentenced to death last month.
These cases have sparked public concern in China about rising social frustrations amid economic challenges. Although violent crime is relatively rare, recent mass attacks have raised questions about public security and underlying social issues.
China’s exact number of executions remains undisclosed, but rights groups estimate it to be in the thousands annually.
