Vice President Kashim Shettima was today joined by NEMA to officially flagged off the distribution of relief materials to victims of the 2024 flood disaster in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.
During the event, Vice President Shettima he distributed relief items included food, non-food essentials, building materials, and agricultural inputs such as tractors and improved seedlings for farmers.
Shettima emphasized the federal government’s commitment, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to addressing the needs of vulnerable citizens and reducing poverty nationwide.
He commended Governor Abdullahi Sule for his visionary leadership and assured him of the federal Government’s continued support.
In his response, governor Sule expressed gratitude to the federal government for the assistance, noting that both the relief materials and agricultural inputs were procured using funds donated by the Federal Government to states affected by the 2024 flood.
Earlier, Hon. Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Margaret Elayo, revealed that a committee had been set up post-flood to assess the impact. Their report identified over 2,000 affected persons who would benefit from the distributed items.
The Vice President was accompanied by key officers from NEMA’s North Central Zonal Office, led by Judith Bai, Chief Relief and Rehabilitation Officer, and assigned by the Zonal Coordinator, Mr. Adebiyi B. Razaq.
