Olomu Kingdom Mourns as Monarch Ohworode Ovbagbedia Passes On

The Ohworode of Olomu Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Ovie Macaulay Popo Ovbagbedia, JP, Uhurhie-Osadjere II, has died. The announcement of his transition was made at the royal palace in Ovwor-Olomu by the Otota of the kingdom, Olorogun Albert Akpomudje (SAN), in the presence of chiefs and family members. Traditional rites, including Ema dances and 21 ceremonial cannon shots, marked the solemn occasion.

Following the announcement, the kingdom initiated a strict mourning period in line with Olomu customs. From July 12 to August 12, 2025, all markets are closed and ceremonial events such as burials and marriages are suspended. Shops are allowed to operate for limited transactions, while all chiefs must wear black armbands and refrain from donning the red Olomu Chieftaincy cap.

The late monarch ascended the throne on May 20, 2023, and his memory was honored with a five-minute silence. His death marks a significant moment in the cultural and traditional life of the Olomu people, who are now united in mourning and reflection.
