Peter Obi Reaffirms One-Term Promise, Emphasizes Impactful Leadership

Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate, has reiterated his vow to serve only one term if elected President, stressing that effective leadership is measured by impact, not duration. Speaking in Awka, Obi stated that his commitment to a four-year tenure is “sacrosanct” and rooted in his belief in purposeful governance. He referenced global leaders like Mandela and Lincoln to support the idea that transformational leadership does not require prolonged time in office.

Obi addressed criticism surrounding his one-term pledge, acknowledging the public’s deep-rooted distrust of political promises due to years of failed leadership. He dismissed sarcastic remarks implying he needed a shrine oath or mental check, arguing that his record of integrity and results in Anambra State proves otherwise. Obi stated, “They judge me by their own standards, but I am not cut out from that cloth.”

The former governor emphasized that 48 months is sufficient for a prepared and focused leader to make meaningful changes. He outlined his core priorities as president to include rebuilding public trust, improving security through better resource management, and revitalizing the education and healthcare systems. He also highlighted plans to support small businesses and fight corruption decisively.

Obi’s vision for Nigeria is centered on transforming the country from a consumption-driven economy to a productive one, powered by agriculture, technology, and manufacturing. He concluded that leadership should deliver real change, not cling to power indefinitely, stating, “Service should be impactful, not eternal.”
